Hyperspace tactics

Postby Twitch » Thu Jul 02, 2009 1:26 pm

We've been thinking about interesting tactics that could be done with the Hyperspace upgrade. It randomly places you along (not within) a 100 meter radius of wherever the ball is. If teams were to use it in a coordinated fashion, with a bit of luck some interesting things could happen.

The general concept with using it as a team would be to have one person run the ball as far into enemy territory as possible, and then have the rest of the team "jump" in when that person loses the ball, or gets far enough in to have a good chance at a score. This could allow a team (except the ball runner), to take a largely defensive stance until it was time to jump.

Another tactic would be dumping the ball into enemy territory as far as possible and then hyperspacing to it. This works on Cyclone, Broadsword, and Diamondback. Since you can throw the ball through a shield-barrier, a ball runner could boost towards the shield-barrier, throw the ball through it, and then hyperspace to the ball. On Diamondback, it's possible to boost with the ball on your own team's side, up the goal ramp, and throw the ball (while at the very end of the ramp) all the way onto the other team's ramp. Once it's up there, a bunch of people could try to hyperspace to it. This requires luck though since the ramp is not very wide.

Hope this fuels some more thoughts on how to use Hyperspace.

Oh wow. That makes hyperspace an option for me haha.
But since im not that great at ball running I might stick with armor more often.. Ill have to try those ideas out during next weeks test(Or maybe on my own against bots)
I'm legendary~~~

I might have to try out Hyperspace a bit. From what I've already experienced, I wish Hyperspace was a bit more accurate. Most of the time I used it, I ended up facing a wall =\

Yeah, I need to change it so you are at least facing the ball when you come out.

Best combo ever Hyperspace + Plasma Launcher = So Much Win

I just got done playing against a bunch of bots and was testing out combos and by far this has to be my favorite for offensive/Goal scoring.

Basically sense you can put a lot of AOE hurt on with the weapon but take a lot of dmg so you want to just get in to the mix and launch as many nades as you can tell you get down to red... Back to the health pad rinse and repeat.

And sense you are not trying to for over powering strikes you will have a lot of energy for speeding... So on the off chance you dislodge the ball from the carrier you have all that Turbo to run it in to the goal.

Proof

Mm, yeah, it's becoming my favorite upgrade. I'm getting nervous that it's overpowered though.

I'm a huge fan of this upgrade, but I'm inclined to say that it's a bit OP as is. A brief, 1-2 second delay, with visual cues, is probably in order for this ability. Otherwise it tends to make people too close to unkillable in my experience.

My usual tactic is to run around with pulse cannons and hyperspace and harrass the back ranks of the enemy. Stay away from the ball unless you can help score, and just run around like a madman, emptying clips into the enemy artillery/defense tanks. Then warp out when they look at you too hard.
